Places to stay

Should I choose a ski-side apartment or a winter cabin?

The short answer

Choose a ski-side apartment if skiing will shape most of your days. Heating, equipment storage, parking and a simple journey back from the lifts can make mornings and afternoons much easier.

Choose a winter cabin if time at the property is part of the holiday. A fire, a peaceful setting and evenings indoors can be a pleasure, provided you are comfortable planning the heating, food supplies and final stretch of the journey.

Choose the ski base for repeatable days

Apartmani Jakovljević Poljice is one example of a ski-focused stay on Jahorina. Its six apartments have heating, equipped kitchens, private parking and ski storage, with the Poljice slope, gondola, ski rental and ski schools nearby. Apartments B1, B2 and B3 also have fireplaces.

Apartment B1 is 37 m² and sleeps up to five. It has a separate bedroom with one double and one single bed, two sofa beds in the living room, a kitchenette and two toilets. At full occupancy, two people sleep on the living-room sofas, leaving less shared space for everyone.

If anyone in your party avoids stairs, confirm the layout before booking. B1 is described both as ground-floor accommodation and as being on two levels with stairs, so it should not be assumed to be step-free.

Choose the cabin for time at the property

Little Cottage Dream in Ponijeri has a loft double bed and a living-room sofa suitable for up to two people, along with forest and sunset views. The kitchen area includes a fridge, double induction hob and basic cookware. The listing also names a wood stove, with firewood kept in the shed to the right of the entrance.

This kind of stay suits travellers who are happy with a loft-and-sofa sleeping arrangement and want quiet time at the cabin. The property listing says there is no shop in Ponijeri, and the property recommends buying groceries in Kakanj, so make that stop on the way.

For a winter visit, ask the host how the cabin stays warm overnight and what to expect on the final road and at the parking area after snow.

Consider a lodge between the two

Bjelašnica Lodges is an A-frame alternative for travellers who want cabin character within driving distance of the slopes. There are four identical lodges, each with a fireplace, fully equipped kitchen, free Wi-Fi, private balcony and private parking directly in front. The property is 7 km from the Bjelašnica ski centre.

This option combines cabin-style features with access to the ski centre by road. The 7 km distance means driving or arranging a transfer each ski day. Before booking, confirm how many people the lodge sleeps, how it is heated and what the approach is like in winter.

Keep winter road conditions separate

Parking at a property does not guarantee an easy journey after snowfall. BIHAMK’s winter-equipment guidance states that the winter-equipment period runs from 1 November to 1 April, regardless of the weather, and explains which arrangements are accepted. Check its live road report for restrictions and conditions on the day you travel.

Main-road reports may not cover the final local or private approach. Ask the host which route to use, where snow clearing ends, where to park and how far you will need to walk with luggage.
