Should I collect a rental car in Mostar or arrive without one?

The short answer
Arrive without a car if your first day is for Mostar and collect locally when the driving begins. Hire from arrival when you need the car straight away. For a Blagaj visit, the day of the week can decide whether later collection works: the current published timetable has Saturday service but no Sunday or holiday service on line 10.
Choose the first driving day
Suppose two adults arrive on Friday for three nights in Mostar. They want a city day, a Blagaj visit and an onward road journey on Monday. Arriving by train or bus and collecting later keeps the car out of the city-day plan. The Sarajevo–Mostar comparison covers the incoming journey; the question here is when driving first adds value.
If Blagaj remains on Sunday, compare a Sunday rental or an arranged return outing. If Blagaj moves to Saturday and the bus fits, collection may wait until Monday’s onward drive.
Use Saturday for Blagaj if the bus suits
The Mostar Bus timetable effective 14 September 2026 lists line 10 from Sjeverni logor to Blagaj on working days and Saturdays, with no service on Sundays or holidays. Line 12 through Blagaj is listed for working days only.
On Saturday, the line 10 table includes 08:00 and 12:00 departures from Sjeverni logor and a 12:40 departure from Blagaj. The 08:00 outward and 12:40 return are a plausible pair for a morning visit. The 12:00 outward does not create a 40-minute visit because that gap also contains the journey. Include the trip to Sjeverni logor and the walk or onward journey from the Blagaj stop.
Use the current timetable and service notices for your travel day. The useful decision is Saturday bus versus Sunday car or arranged outing, rather than car versus bus in the abstract.
Choose an exact collection point
Rentacarmostar.ba’s contact page describes airport and city collection and hotel delivery within city limits. For a city or hotel handover, give the exact address and time and have the arrangement included in the offer.
If you are flying into Mostar and driving immediately, its airport page describes meeting at the public arrivals exit with a name board. Use the meeting instructions and contact supplied for your booking. If driving begins later, include the airport-to-accommodation journey in the city-first option.
Compare the complete arrangements
Ask for two offers with the same vehicle, drivers, equipment and cover: one beginning at arrival and one on the first driving day. Compare the total, any delivery or different-location return fee, and parking while the car is with you. A three-night stay does not by itself tell you how many 24-hour rental periods will be charged.
If collecting on Monday, arrange where the luggage will be until handover. State the return location as clearly as the collection point, and use the different-city return questions for an onward one-way journey.
